Unraveling Mechanisms of Atypical Kinase Dysfunction in Kidney Disease

The Thaker Lab focuses on understanding the complexity of mitochondrial regulation in the progression of human diseases, including kidney disease. Our research specifically aims to understand how patient-derived mutations in the atypical membrane-bound mitochondrial kinase ADCK4 contribute to focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), the leading cause of nephrotic syndrome. In this seminar, I will present work in progress from our lab using complementary methods in microscopy, biochemistry, and structural biology to gain insights into ADCK4 functions at the intersection of metabolism and signaling in kidney disease.
